Lazy Days In Portugal

It's been a long time since I last went on a holiday where the main plan was to relax. Usually I have an itinerary meticulously mapped out and a huge list of sights to rush through before I have to head home. At the beginning of the year I thought I'd treat myself to a break where I would quite literally do nothing other than eat, sleep, swim, read and sunbathe and so my nan and I booked a week away in Portugal. Honestly, I think my head would've exploded from stress without it!

I've spent the past week in a blissful, mellow mood where a cold beer and good book have never been far from my hands. Trying to get a base tan in preparation for the rest of my summer adventures was probably the most difficult thing I did. I'm not very good at just lying in the sun, I get super fidgety in the heat! Luckily there was a  lovely, icy pool to dive into whenever things got a little too toasty for my liking. Evenings were spent wandering in Albufeira, browsing the shops and dining on fresh Mediterranean dishes. We were very pleased to find that our hotel, Baia Grande, was just a ten minute drive away and offered shuttles regularly into Old Town and to the beach. We usually slipped away just before the square began to fill up with people hoping to spend their evenings in the bars as it can get pretty crowded and stressful if you don't like being pushed along narrow streets by a stream of bustling people. Instead, we chose to spend our evening sat on our balcony watching the sun fade away over the sea whilst playing cards and drinking wine.

By the end of the week I was feeling refreshed and itching to get home to continue my studies and focus on work. I think I may need to make lazy holidays an annual thing!

Which holidays do you prefer? Busy, jam-packed ones or lazy, relaxing ones?
